Facebook Changes Its Name To ‘Meta’ in Major Rebranding Exercise; Apps To Retain Names

Facebook's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder, Mark Zuckerberg, has announced the name change in it's company's name to ‘Meta’. 

This announcement was communicated to the general public on Thursday October 28th, 2021.

'Meta' is a new parent company for Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc.

According to his statement, the name of the Facebook app and other apps like Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger will remain the same as social media products.

That is to say, the above mentioned apps will be under the rebranding name.

He further explained that the change was to reflect who they are and what they have planned to build in future.

Giving reasons on the rebranding, Facebook CEO said that the former Facebook brand is too limited to represent what the company wants to do in the future. 

Adding that the new name and brand would represent Facebook's apps and its evolving work on augmented and virtual reality products.

Zuckerberg said that over time, he hoped they are seen as a metaverse company. That from now on, they are going to be metaverse first, not Facebook first.

He also wished that people come to know the Meta brand and the future that the brand stand for.
